Context
A migration affects more than the server being moved. Applications depend on data stores, network paths, credentials, background jobs and people who support them.
Start with a workload inventory and dependency map. Capture data sizes, configuration sources, integration requirements and the maintenance windows available to the business.
Test the destination environment with representative traffic and data. Document differences that could affect application behavior. Agree what will be checked before and after cutover.
Plan communication, cutover and recovery together. The team should understand when changes begin, what signals indicate success and which conditions would trigger a return to the previous environment.
