Context
Infrastructure as code describes the resources a system needs in version-controlled files. Its value is not just speed: a proposed change becomes something a teammate can review.
Begin with a small, understandable module boundary. Name resources consistently and document the inputs that differ between environments. Avoid copying entire stacks without a plan for shared changes.
Protect state and use the locking and access controls appropriate to your backend. Treat plan output as operational information and review resource deletions carefully.
Pair automation with clear procedures. Document how changes are proposed, who applies them and how existing manually created resources are handled. Repeatability improves when the workflow is as clear as the code.
