Context
A deployment pipeline turns a release process into a sequence the team can inspect and repeat. Start with the steps you already perform, then make their inputs and acceptance criteria explicit.
Keep branch and environment mappings clear. A development branch should target development, and each environment should own its configuration and credentials. Avoid a trigger that accidentally deploys every environment.
Validate before deployment. Install from a committed lockfile, build the application and run checks that catch meaningful failures. Keep deployment logs useful without printing secrets.
Define a health check and a recovery path. An application starting successfully is only part of the release: verify a meaningful request, document how the previous version can be restored, and treat database compatibility as a separate concern.
