Service overview

An Azure landing zone should give workload teams a usable foundation while preserving clear organization-wide boundaries. Clouvenix reviews management groups, subscriptions, identity and shared infrastructure before proposing a rollout. We turn platform requirements into an implementation backlog with named owners, exceptions and onboarding instructions. Existing workloads and policy inheritance are assessed first so foundational changes do not unexpectedly block application delivery.

When this service is useful

This service is useful when Azure subscriptions have grown without consistent ownership, network design or policy expectations. It also fits organizations preparing a new application estate or separating business units. We establish how subscriptions are requested, governed and operated, connecting management groups, identity, connectivity and logging to the responsibilities of the teams that will use the foundation.

Design and operating decisions

Management hierarchy and policy responsibility

We review how management groups and subscriptions represent business and operating boundaries. Policies are selected for an understood requirement and assigned an owner. Existing exceptions and application dependencies are considered before enforcement, with a pilot path that exposes deployment impact before a broad inheritance change reaches production subscriptions.

Shared platform and workload autonomy

Connectivity, monitoring and privileged administration may belong to a shared platform team while application resources remain with workload teams. We document that division and the interfaces between teams. The goal is a repeatable subscription onboarding route with clear choices, rather than a central team becoming the unexplained owner of every application decision.

Scope and deliverables

  • Management-group and subscription design
  • Azure Policy assignment and exception review
  • Identity and platform-role boundaries
  • Shared networking and monitoring integration
  • Infrastructure code and workload onboarding records

Delivery approach

1. Discover the subscription estate

Map billing ownership, tenant dependencies, existing policy and current application environments. Identify controls that need testing before inheritance changes.

2. Pilot a workload landing zone

Implement the agreed foundation for a nonproduction subscription. Validate network reachability, role assignments, policy effects and the application deployment path.

3. Establish the operating model

Document subscription requests, platform changes, exception review and recovery access. Walk platform and workload owners through the shared responsibility boundary.

Illustrative engagement

An illustrative project could prepare an Azure foundation for two application teams that currently share one subscription. A pilot subscription would exercise identity assignments, the agreed network connection and central operational visibility. One representative application then tests the deployment route and relevant policy behavior. Moving existing production resources is assessed separately, because resource dependencies and identifiers may make migration a different workstream. Acceptance focuses on a usable foundation and an onboarding process that a second team can follow.

Acceptance evidence

AreaEvidence reviewed
PolicySelected assignments produce the expected effect and approved exceptions are traceable.
OwnershipPlatform resources and workload resources have named operators and clear change permissions.
OnboardingA representative application team can deploy within the reviewed subscription foundation.

Before we start

Provide tenant and subscription inventories, identity ownership, policy requirements, shared-network dependencies and a workload team able to validate a staged subscription.

Planning the scope

The scope depends on tenant and subscription arrangements, existing management groups, network topology, identity requirements and infrastructure automation. Inherited policies or security controls may need coordination with other owners. Discovery distinguishes foundation changes from resource migration, commercial billing changes and organization-wide operating support, with the acceptance path agreed before implementation begins.

Handover and ownership

Handover includes the hierarchy and subscription ownership map, policy decisions, infrastructure repository and workload onboarding instructions. We identify the teams responsible for exceptions, network requests and access changes. A customer operator rehearses the subscription lifecycle steps and receives a record of unresolved dependencies, so routine platform use does not depend solely on the implementation engineer.

Ongoing operations

A landing zone requires continuing ownership for policy exceptions, subscription lifecycle and changes to shared services. New workloads may introduce requirements that were absent during the pilot. We document how those requests are reviewed and how platform changes are tested, while support windows and incident responsibilities remain explicit elements of the customer's operating arrangement.

Boundaries and support

The design is tailored to your estate. A landing zone does not provide a compliance certification, and moving existing applications requires a separate migration plan.

Frequently asked questions

Can you adapt an existing Azure environment?

Yes. We inspect current management groups, policy inheritance and dependencies, then propose incremental adoption or a replacement path with explicit exceptions.

Does every team need a separate subscription?

Subscription boundaries depend on ownership, access, lifecycle and isolation requirements. We document the chosen model rather than applying one pattern to every organization.

Will the platform be managed afterward?

Ongoing platform administration can be scoped after the foundation is accepted, including policy changes, onboarding and maintenance responsibilities.
