Service overview

Audit logs need to answer who changed what and whether the relevant event was collected at all. Clouvenix scopes cloud audit logging around administrative activity, workload boundaries and evidence requirements. We review collection paths, storage access, retention and failure visibility, then validate selected events end to end. The delivery gives operators a documented retrieval process while distinguishing management events, data access and application logs.

When this service is useful

This service helps organizations make selected cloud administrative and security activity easier to trace and investigate. It is useful when logs are scattered across accounts or nobody can confirm whether important events are retained and accessible. We begin with investigation questions and scope, then connect event collection, storage, access and review ownership into an understandable evidence path.

Design and operating decisions

Event coverage and retention purpose

We identify the activities the customer needs to investigate and the logging sources available for them. Management events, application events and data-access evidence can have different coverage and cost implications. Retention is selected against an agreed operating or governance need, with gaps recorded explicitly so a central log location is not mistaken for complete visibility.

Access, protection and usable investigation

Collected evidence needs controlled access and an understood route to search or export. We review who can change collection settings and who can alter retained data. A representative investigation checks whether the relevant event can be found and interpreted, including identity and time context, rather than relying only on a healthy ingestion indicator.

Scope and deliverables

  • Required event and source inventory
  • Cloud audit collection and storage configuration
  • Log-reader and log-administrator access review
  • Retention and collection-failure visibility
  • Evidence retrieval tests and operating instructions

Delivery approach

1. Define the evidence questions

Identify the administrative or data-access events the organization must investigate. Record the systems, event categories, retention owners and approved readers.

2. Implement the reviewed collection path

Configure selected sources, destinations and permissions. Check retention and cost implications before enabling broader or higher-volume event collection.

3. Prove collection and retrieval

Generate an approved harmless event, locate it through the delivered query path and verify access restrictions. Document collection-health checks and response to missing evidence.

Illustrative engagement

For example, a company may need to explain who changed a production access policy but find that each account stores evidence differently. A scoped engagement could centralize the agreed sources and validate a controlled administrative event. An operator then searches for the event, identifies the actor and reviews the relevant context. Retention and access decisions are documented with customer owners. Sources outside the initial scope remain visible as coverage gaps instead of being implied by the phrase centralized logging.

Before we start

Provide cloud resource ownership, required investigation scenarios, storage and retention requirements and access to the logging administrators. Sensitive event content must have an agreed handling policy.

Planning the scope

Effort depends on provider and account diversity, event types, retention, destination tooling and current collection arrangements. High-volume sources or regulated data may need additional customer decisions. Discovery separates audit-log engineering from a full security operations center, legal evidence interpretation and continuous incident response, selecting the investigation scenarios and access boundaries before deployment.

Handover and ownership

Handover includes the source and retention inventory, collection configuration, access model and a walkthrough of representative investigations. We identify who responds to collection failures and who authorizes evidence access. Customer operators receive known visibility gaps and cost assumptions, together with the responsibilities required to maintain the logging path as accounts, services and investigation requirements change.

Ongoing operations

After implementation, new accounts and services need to enter the coverage review process. Operators should investigate missing events, permission changes and retention failures, with ownership assigned for each. We document the review cadence and escalation path, while ongoing log-platform management, detection development and response coverage remain explicitly agreed services matched to the customer's operating model.

Boundaries and support

Collected logs do not automatically prove completeness, immutability or legal admissibility. Event availability, retention and protection depend on the chosen platform configuration and operating controls.

Frequently asked questions

Do you collect every possible log?

Collection follows the agreed evidence needs and platform capabilities. We review volume, sensitivity and cost instead of enabling all data-access logging without a purpose.

Can we centralize logs across accounts?

Centralization can be scoped with explicit source permissions, destination ownership and reader roles. Acceptance tests include events from the selected source boundaries.

How do we know collection stopped?

The design includes selected collection-health indicators and an owner response. We test a representative gap or delivery failure where practical.
