Service overview

Replication is useful only when the recovered systems can support the required business workflow. Clouvenix scopes Azure Site Recovery around machine eligibility, network mapping, identity dependencies and application recovery order. We design a test plan that separates replication health from application readiness and records what operators must do during a failover decision. Recovery objectives are proposed against observed evidence and the actual dependency chain.

CHAPTER

When this service is useful

This engagement suits organizations that need a documented and tested recovery path for eligible virtual-machine workloads using Azure Site Recovery. It is useful when replication is configured but nobody has rehearsed the application sequence. We review supported source conditions, application dependencies and the customer-approved recovery objectives before considering replication health sufficient evidence of business recovery readiness.

CHAPTER

Design and operating decisions

Recovery grouping and dependency order

Applications may depend on identity, DNS, databases and network services that are not recovered by the same mechanism. We map those relationships and define an agreed startup and validation order. The recovery plan identifies manual decisions and external dependencies so an operator does not discover them during an actual interruption.

Test isolation and return decisions

A test recovery environment must avoid unintended interaction with the live application or production data flows. We agree networking, access and the validation dataset before the exercise. The plan also distinguishes testing, an actual failover and returning service, with customer authorization and rollback boundaries recorded for each operating decision.

CHAPTER

Scope and deliverables

  • Protected-machine and dependency discovery
  • Replication policy and target-readiness review
  • Recovery network and identity mapping
  • Application recovery plans and test scenarios
  • Failover evidence and operator handover
CHAPTER

Delivery approach

1. Define the recovery boundary

Identify protected machines, external services, recovery order and the authority to declare an incident. Confirm source and target prerequisites before enabling protection.

2. Prepare an isolated test

Configure the reviewed replication and recovery plan. Select a test network that avoids unintended contact with production dependencies or duplicate application identities.

3. Exercise and review recovery

Run the approved test, validate application transactions and record gaps. Update operating instructions with decision points for failover, communication and return to normal service.

CHAPTER

Illustrative engagement

For example, a customer may replicate several virtual machines while its recovery instructions simply list those machines. A scoped exercise could group an application, map its DNS and identity dependencies and run a test recovery in an isolated network. Application owners validate the agreed user workflow and record the steps that required manual intervention. The resulting evidence describes the observed rehearsal conditions; it does not promise that every future outage will recover within an untested time.

CHAPTER

Acceptance evidence

AreaEvidence reviewed
ReplicationSelected machines meet the agreed protection and replication-health checks.
Application readinessThe isolated recovered environment completes the approved business transaction and dependency checks.
Decision processRecovery authority, communication owners and the next operational steps are documented.
CHAPTER

Before we start

Provide machine inventories, network and identity dependencies, business recovery priorities, target capacity and application owners. Testing windows and data handling must be approved in advance.

CHAPTER

Planning the scope

Effort depends on source platform eligibility, workload size, replication prerequisites, network arrangements and the number of application owners involved. Data consistency and external integrations can require specialist validation. Discovery separates platform protection setup from application redesign, licensing and wider business continuity work, and confirms the access and windows required for a controlled recovery exercise.

CHAPTER

Handover and ownership

Handover contains the recovery dependency map, protection configuration, exercise results and an operator-oriented recovery plan. We identify who declares an incident, who authorizes a failover and who confirms application acceptance. Remaining gaps, including dependencies outside the protected workload, are assigned owners so the customer can maintain a recovery plan that reflects the application as it actually operates.

CHAPTER

Ongoing operations

Recovery readiness changes when applications, identities or networks change. Operators need to review replication health and rehearse the agreed recovery route periodically. We document the maintenance and test responsibilities, while ongoing monitoring, emergency response and future exercises are scoped according to the customer's critical systems and operating coverage rather than assumed to follow automatically from initial setup.

CHAPTER

Boundaries and support

A replication health indicator is not a guaranteed recovery time. Supported configurations, third-party systems and failback feasibility are assessed before committing to the recovery approach.

CHAPTER

Frequently asked questions

Can you test without a real outage?

An isolated test failover can be planned where the supported configuration permits it. The test design prevents recovered services from unintentionally writing to live dependencies.

Will you set an RTO and RPO?

We help define proposed recovery objectives and compare them with measured exercises. Final commitments depend on the complete application architecture and agreed operating coverage.

Does recovery include external SaaS services?

External dependencies are inventoried and assigned an owner, but they are not automatically replicated by a virtual-machine recovery service. Their continuity path must be agreed separately.
